Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 20, 2026

This policy describes how Hakaru Fujii ("the author") handles your information in Chordrift (www.chordrift.app and the macOS desktop app).

1. Core principle

Chordrift works without an account. The progressions you write, your settings, and your recordings are stored on your own deviceand are never sent to the author's servers. The only time the author receives information that could identify you is when you choose to write in through the contact form.

2. Data stored on your device

The following is kept in your browser's localStorage and IndexedDB. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and the author cannot see it.

  • Chord progressions, sections, and favorites you create or save
  • Settings such as key, mode, BPM, volume, and instrument
  • Rhythm and backing patterns created in the desktop app
  • Audio recorded in the desktop app (stored in IndexedDB as temporary scratch space; once the limit is reached, the oldest recordings are deleted automatically)

You can erase all of it by clearing site data in your browser, or by uninstalling the desktop app. Doing so also removes your saved progressions and recordings, so export anything you want to keep first.

3. Analytics (Google Analytics)

The web version (www.chordrift.app) uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, to understand how the app is used. Through cookies and similar technology it collects information such as which pages you view, how long you stay, where you arrived from, your approximate region, and your device and browser type. It does not include your name or email address, and it is not used to identify individuals.

  • The desktop app does not load analytics at all. Analytics runs only when the production website is displayed.
  • You can opt out through your browser's cookie settings or with Google'sopt-out add-on.
  • The collected information is handled underGoogle's Privacy Policy.

4. Contact form

Messages sent through thecontact formare delivered to the author's email address viaWeb3Forms(operated by Web3Forms, United States). The following is sent:

  • The type of enquiry, your name, your email address, and your message
  • Diagnostic details — app version, whether you are on the web or desktop version, display language, and browser type. These are attached only when you submit the form, never during normal use.

This information is used solely to reply to you and to investigate bugs or consider improvements. It is never sold or shared with third parties without your consent, and your email address is never used for newsletters or promotion.

Handling on the delivery service's side follows theWeb3Forms Privacy Policy. Because the message passes through servers outside your country, please avoid sending sensitive information.

5. Microphone and MIDI access

Recording in the desktop app requests access to your microphone (audio interface), and MIDI input requests access to connected MIDI devices. Both work only if you grant permission, and neither the captured audio nor your performance data ever leaves your device. Recordings are stored locally.

6. External services and embeds

  • The support page embeds OFUSE and Ko-fi buttons. Displaying them involves a request to those services, and anything you do there is governed by their own policies. The author never receives your payment details.
  • On launch, the desktop app checks GitHub (the distribution repository) for the latest version. This request carries only ordinary connection information needed to determine whether an update exists — none of your work is included.
  • The web version is hosted by Vercel Inc., which records standard access logs for delivery.

7. Use by minors

Chordrift may be used at any age, but if you are a minor, please get a parent or guardian's consent before sending personal information through the contact form.

8. Contact

For questions about this policy, or to request deletion of information you have sent, please use thecontact form.

9. Changes

This policy may be revised as features change or external services are added or removed. Significant changes will be reflected in the last-updated date on this page.
